Great Webtoons out there.

As an anime and manga fanatic, I've only been reading published manga. I snobbishly ignore webtoons because I got a bad first impression of online manga (I blame that to an incompetent "mangaka" whose art made me want to gag.) But since summer last year that changed starting with the Manhwa Action Idol: Age of Young Dragons.

Too bad this webtoon doesn't have any update lately. According to Mangaupdates.com season 2 is currently on hiatus.
Anyway. Last week I finished reading chapter 117 of an even more amazing webtoon "The Gamer " by Sung Sang-Youn and Sang-Ah.

Summary: Han Jee-Han, a normal high school student, suddenly develops a special power where his entire world is shifted into a game-like setting. He can see the power levels of people, look at the stats of a seemingly normal item, get abilities, and even level up! Follow Han Jee-Han as he discovers how to use this power, and maybe even where it came from.

I dig this manhwa. The action, comedy and romance are perfectly blended. The hero isn't strong in the beginning, but he's not a wimp. His funny and I learn to love him and his quirky attitude pretty fast. What I admire about him most is how he walk the line between a geek and really cool hero. I'm looking forward to more chapters of this webtoon manhwa.

A Friendly Flirtation [Book Review]

Friends First #3
Christine Warner
Releasing February 15th, 2016

One kiss can change your life...

Allison Hall is fed up with being a social outcast. Even at the tech company where she works for her brother and his best friend, Jared, she's the invisible nerdy girl. What she needs is confidence—and that requires a makeover and dating tips. And she knows just the man to help…

Jared Esterly is shocked when Allison asks for his assistance and turns her down, knowing that her brother—his business partner and best friend, Nick—would kill him if he dated her, even if it is just for practice. But when Al’s attempt to make changes on her own fails spectacularly, Jared reluctantly steps in. Things heat up quickly, and soon lessons move from the salon to the bedroom.

When overprotective big-brother Nick discovers Jared is dating Allison, their friendship and business partnership sour. Allison, consumed by guilt, must make a choice: stay with Jared, even though that means ruining his friendship with Nick and possibly his career, or leave the one man who sets her on fire.

My rating: ✮✮✮☆彡

I've been reading more paranormal books lately, so I decided to take a break and sign-up to review this one.

The book started great and charming. I completely sympathized with Alison's wish to change. It's a terrible feeling to be invisible to everyone's eyes but her change of attitude in the next hour after her makeover was almost unbelievably fast. I get it that it was because of Jared's action but still it was barely two hours, and she's already full of confidence.

What probably annoyed me most isn't Alison's Flirty attitude but her desperation to get a boyfriend after makeover.

Honestly, it was really hard for me if I like this book or not. In one side, I love it yet there's also something that irritates me with the story. I can't point my finger on it since the author's writing made me excited while reading but also made me want to throw it away. I don't know it's a really confusing experience for me. However, it has a nice satisfactory ending that tip the balance and made me like the book more than hate.

“Allerleirauh” is a Retelling of the Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tale classic.

Rating: ✮✮✮✮☆彡

Everyone has a first. Allerleirauh is the first retelling book that I’ve read, and I don’t regret it one bit. I haven’t read or watch the story the Grimm Brothers wrote, so I have nothing to compare. But I love how Chantal Gadoury wrote this version. So poetic and realistic, I was hook in from the first page and felt disappointed to see it come to an end. I wish it were a bit longer, just a few more page to show me more about Klaus and the Princess he brought with him. I’m super curious about them.

Klaus was a bit of a prick, I almost hated him a short time after he was introduced but I couldn’t help admiring him at the same time. He’s after all very human, with flaws and imperfection and wishes nothing more than what’s best for his friend, the Prince. If I must say, he’s actually my favorite character.

I can’t complain anything about Aurelia, just as Klaus she’s a very relatable. She managed to keep herself sane despite having such a twisted parents and wicked, very wicked mother who left a curse on her and her pitiful father.

From being a victim of innocence to a strong, willful woman who fought to find her happy ever after. This story is close to perfect.

Debt [Book Spotlight]

New-Adult Romance
Sports Romance

The Debt Collector

I pay my debts, and I expect others to.

I was raised in the slums of London, I knew nothing of privilege. My father was murdered when I was seventeen. Morty figured my father's passing meant I would automatically take on dad's debts. I refused.

And I paid for that refusal.

So did my sister.

So now I fight. All I know how to do is fight. The best cash is in the states, so that's where I am now. A big fish called Vito came along offering me a "favor" when I arrived.

Another debt.

I paid for that one too.

I knew Kyla Hensley would be trouble when I met her. But I wanted her. I could see through the falsehood of her wannabe-slutty clothes and her sexy legs. So I chased her.

Besides, trouble is my middle name.

Kyla Hensley

I was brought up in privilege, but I lacked everything else. My father is a business tycoon who buys and sells and doesn't care who gets rolled over in the process.

I never knew my mother, and all I have of her is a photo with a note scrawled on the back in French saying "I'm sorry." The only Female Figure I had growing up is my dad's wife who is a bleach blond with seven boob jobs. We never bonded.

I drink. I party. I meet guys.

But I wasn't always like that.

I've had a string of lovers in the last few years, the worst and most recent of which was Vince Somerset. My best friend Vera was dating a guy called Rory Cansoom who is the opposite of Vince in so many ways, and yet so the same.

She and I hit the road for the summer, getting away from the two college psychos and just trying to have some fun.

But there's a funny thing about trouble, the more you run from it, the more it finds you.

Which is when I met the Debt Collector.

It was only supposed to be sex. He made that clear. I made that clear.

That's all it was supposed to be.

I never expected to fall in love. I never expected to fall so deeply, madly, uncomfortably in love with a man who is wrong, so wrong for me.

And yet...so unbelievably right.

Ouran High School Host Club

~ ~ ~ Story ~ ~ ~

Haruhi Fujioka is a scholarship student at the prestigious Ouran Academy, a fictitious high school located in Bunkyo, Tokyo. Looking for a quiet place to study, Haruhi stumbles upon the Third Music Room, a place where the Ouran Academy Host Club, a group of six male students, gathers to entertain female "clients." During their initial encounter, Haruhi accidentally knocks over and breaks an antique vase valued at¥8,000,000 (US$80,000 in Viz Media's translation)[1] and is told to repay the cost in service to the club as an errand boy. Haruhi's short hair, slouching attire and gender-ambiguous face cause her to be mistaken by the hosts for a male student. After a brief run as such, the Hosts soon realize that she's a "natural" in entertaining girls and promote her to full-Host status.[2] She agrees since Hosting will help her pay off her debt more quickly. The members of the club discover her true gender one by one, but they keep this fact a secret.

~ ~ ~ Review ~ ~ ~

Ouran High School Host Club anime is a unique experience to watch. Even if it's a romance genre it has all kind of feels, a yuri (lesbian theme) and yaoi (gay theme) but on the same time a hilarious romantic hetero romance. I don't really know how to explain why I like it so much without spoiling it to those who hadn't watched the anime yet.

I don't usually like a shojo demographic these days and especially reverse harem because I hate seeing bishies get hurt, but this anime pull it off just fine.

The Ouran High School Host Club live drama is also fantastic. It's one of the best Japanese drama I've seen. I love how they copied the anime. Keeping all the exaggerated reactions like how the hero literally turn to stone and crackle. Either it’s the anime or the live drama; I totally recommend to watch it if you’re looking for light-hearted romance.

I don’t know about the manga because I haven’t read it yet, but since it all start from there, I’m sure it’s equally good or sometimes even better.

Whispers spread about the unconventional lessons she teaches her new students. Rumblings of discontent stir as others begin to follow the path toward their freedom. The Revolution has begun, and Q is the spark that ignited the flames.

My Rating: ✮✮✮✮✮彡

Before I write more than this can I just say two words first?

Phew! That felt so much better. Now let me add that.

I’ve never been a dystopian fanatic, but this book is a life changing experience. The summary intrigued me; therefore, I did not hesitate to request a review copy of it. And now that I finished reading it, I’ll be buying the paperback so that I could enjoy it again sometime in the future. Other than Harry Potter series I’ve never read a book that made my heart clench tightly. After passing 50% of the book, I could no longer put it down. I had to read it all the way. I ignored my ringing phone and even my hunger! Yes, the story is that exciting.

I had a few complain when I started, but now that I'm done, I couldn’t care less. I'll definitely want to read the next installment in this series.

Author Bio

Courtney’s love for writing started pretty much when she learned to read, which her mother would tell you was a feat in itself back when she was in the first grade. Once she aced those flashcards with vocabulary words, Courtney’s writing took off. And her love with it. In school, she was always writing short stories on a word processor (What?? Word processor with floppy disks?). Oh yes, she literally had a card filing case full of floppy disks.

Now getting her Doctorate in social work, she’s used this education to help her writing some of the gritty issues entwined in her stories. When Courtney isn’t writing her next book while drinking coffee, you can find her doing homework (drag) with chocolate chip flavored coffee, reading series of books (because school books are only so interesting) while drinking pumpkin flavored coffee, playing with her little boy, or daydreaming of future beach houses while drinking some other scrumptious flavor of coffee.
